The name “Baramulla” is derived from the name of
Saint
‘Varra’ who lived here in 8th century .And it is also
believed that there were twelve mullahs (Muslim priests) lived here.
The town was named after them.
This town is situated on the bank of river “Jehlum”
it holds about 1.50 lac .of population. There are Muslims, Sikhs,
Hindus and Christian. Its historical heritage include Four Hundred
years old gurudwara, 'Chatti Paadshahi’ that was visited by Guru
Hargobind Singhji Maharaj, one hundred and Six years old Juma Masjid situated
near river Jehlum, Century old ‘Shelputri Mandir’ and St. Joseph Catholic
church.
Baramulla is covered all around by small hills followed by densely
planted forests where some attractive creatures such as leopards,
Himalayan black bear, musk deer, wild cats, jackal, and foxes are
